This is where special protective coatings come in. May be the best and the easiest way here would be to use polyurethane coating like, say Urethane 71 offered by Kontakt Chemie, which has been proven by time. This coating is a unique combination of hardness, elasticity and high adhesiveness. Besides the use of this coating in aerosol, when the work scope is not that big, will help achieve high results. The advantage of this product, as opposed to its two-component counterparts, is the simplicity of application and highly durable coating. So, to protect our circuit board we spray the product from a distance of about 20 cm. The coating covers the surface evenly forming a transparent film that takes about 2 hours to dry under room temperature. The complete polymerization process (under which the molecular bonds are entirely rebuilt) takes a little over 24 hours. The surface covered with urethane would be rather difficult to solder, in case demounting of components is required, but the circuit board can then be operated under aggressive environment, increased humidity and the temperature of -40 - +120 degrees Celsius. Apart from printed circuit boards, the product can be used to saturate the armature and winding of transformers, as well as to coat cases, wires, solenoids and other electronic parts. The coating can also be used to provide decorative and transparent protection for every day metal articles, while the slightly yellow coloration enhances the aesthetics of metal surfaces.And do keep in mind that you have to follow certain precautions, when using URETHAN 71, because the product contains flammable components. Avoid open fire and ensure that the working room is properly ventilated.
